TEACCH promotes learning and development, particularly communication and social skills, independence, coping strategies and daily living skills such as dressing, washing, brushing teeth, and so on.
The TEACCH method relies on the core principles of Structured Teaching. Work systems and visual schedules, routines and flexibility, an organized physical environment, and visually structured activities are among the principles.
According to the researchers, the impact of TEACCH on skills in the areas of perception, motor movement, language, and cognition has been relatively good. Researchers found that TEACCH had moderate benefits in areas of social behavior and maladaptive behaviors (e.g., aggression).
The Autistic community has time and again voiced concerns about the negative impact of mechanical aspects and forceful nature of ABA. TEACCH is an advanced school of ABA which respects the child's agency and focuses on his environment and visual teaching.
