Inclusive schools in Bangalore are dedicated to providing a supportive learning environment for students with diverse abilities and needs, ensuring equal opportunities for all. Our inclusivity checklist was meticulously developed through a comprehensive survey involving various stakeholders, including supporters, teachers, principals, parents, and alumni. Designed using Carter analysis, the survey ensured thorough data collection and categorization, focusing on eight key factors that contribute to an inclusive educational environment:
1) Accessibility and Facilities: Wheelchair accessibility, elevators or ramps, accessible restrooms.
2) Support Services: Shadow teacher facility, specialized equipment for sensory impairments, onboarding assessments.
3) Inclusive Curriculum and Instruction: Curriculum adaptations, differentiated instruction strategies, assistive technologies.
4) Transition Planning: Support during grade transitions, transition plans for post-secondary education or vocational training.
5) Behavioral Support and Positive Behavior Intervention: Strategies for positive behavior promotion, social-emotional learning programs.
6) Communication and Collaboration: Regular progress meetings, parent involvement in decision-making.
7) Safety and Inclusion: Measures to prevent bullying, inclusion in extracurricular activities.
8) Training and Professional Development: Staff training on inclusive education practices.
Scoring System
Each component was scored based on the level of accommodation provided by the school:
0: The school does not have that component at all.
1: The school has partial components.
2: The school fully accommodates that component.
These scores were tallied to provide an overall inclusivity score for each school, resulting in a comprehensive and easy-to-read checklist for parents and special educators.
Data Collection and Schools Included
Survey data was collected from over 50 schools using the snowball sampling technique. While the data provides a substantial overview, it may not be exhaustive or fully representative of all schools. Stakeholders can reach out to programs@insighte.in to resolve any conflicts or provide additional information. The following schools are listed based on their high scores in both academic performance and inclusive education practices.
1. Redbridge International Academy

The school is fully wheelchair accessible and offers shadow teachers, specialized facilities for sensory impairments, and onboarding assessments. Support services include a dedicated special education program, trained staff, and adapted curriculum with differentiated instruction and assistive technologies. Exam accommodations, such as scribes for Hindi, are provided. Transition planning is well-structured, and behavioral support includes sensory breaks and individualized plans. Effective communication with parents and staff ensures regular updates and involvement. The school promotes safety, inclusion, and a culture of acceptance in all activities. Staff receive regular training and updates on best practices for inclusive education. Overall, Redbridge International Academy provides a supportive and inclusive environment for all students.
2. Army Public School, Kamraj Road
Army Public School, Kamraj Road, Bangalore demonstrates a strong commitment to inclusion practices. The school is wheelchair accessible with elevators, but restrooms lack accessible features. Shadow teachers are available, and support services cater to both physical and intellectual disabilities through individualized education plans and various accommodations.
