Activities for Autism at Home

Activities for autism at home Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The ways in which people with autism learn, think problem-solve can range from highly skilled to severely challenged. Some people with ASD may require significant support in their daily lives, while others may need less support and, in some cases, live entirely independently. Activities help kids with autism to learn academics, communication and other important life skills.

Threading Activity

Materials required:

-Straws that has to be cut into shorter lengths

-Shoelace

Procedure:

Keep the cut straws in a container, ask the child to pick them one after the other

and thread them using a shoelace.

Play dough

Materials required

- Play dough

Procedure

Ask the child to create numbers/alphabets/shapes or anything they want using play dough.

Let them be creative and enjoy the activity.

Seek and Find

- Storage bin

- Small toys

- Beans

Procedure

Fill a storage bin with beans and bury small toys inside. Ask the child to search for the toys

Trace and Connect

Materials required

-Paper

-Pencil

Procedure

Ask the child to trace and connect the dots to form different shapes.


Clothspin Activity

-Clothespins

-A small box

Procedure

Keep the clothespins in a container. Ask the child to pick them and clip to the

box.
